The importance of sharing a ‘be on the lookout’ (BOLO) post, from any social media platform have proven its affectivity.

The importance of sharing a ‘be on the lookout’ (BOLO) post, from any social media platform have proven its affectivity.

On Sunday, March 11 a Datsun 510 SSS Coupè was reported missing and a BOLO was uploaded onto the SACCW (South African Community Crime Watch) Facebook page.

According to information received, the vehicle was stolen in Springs and the last known location was allegedly in eMalahleni.

Shortly after this, another call came through and the man said that he just purchased a vehicle, looking much like the vehicle described in the BOLO.

He saw the post and contacted Ms Maureen Scheepers from the SACCW. He stated that he could provide proof of purchase and the owner and buyer were connected with each other, where after the vehicle was collected by the police.

Mr Udesh Sivlal said on Tuesday, March 20 that it was one of his tenants who stole the vehicle, along with another vehicle and car spares worth around R50 000.

“After this, they made a run for it, apparently to eMalahleni. Only one car was recovered so far, but in stripped form. The identity copy I have is a confirmed match received from the person who bought my stolen vehicle,” Sivlal said.

A case was opened at the Springs Police Station for further investigation.

The investigation is still ongoing.

“This just proves that sharing a BOLO could help solve a crime. Thank you to all our members that share our look-out posts,” Scheepers added.

She added that four vehicles in total have been recovered through only sharing a BOLO post this year.
