With 17 arrests in five days the Witbank Police show how fed up eMalahleni is about the use and selling of drugs.
“Drugs are an enormous problem in eMalahleni for a long while now. If only we can stop addicts to buy then the dealers will not be in business anymore, would that not be perfect,” said Ms Magdél Nagel, a mother of a recovered drug addict.
While parents and residents are fighting the war on drugs in the streets of the coal city the police arrested left, right and centre.
On March 10, a total of seven drug arrests were made. The drugs ranged from dagga to heroin.

The police official spotted him taking something from a man, known as a dealer in eMalahleni.

In another incident that occurred in Stevenson Street on March 14 a suspicious man was on foot when he saw a police van next to the road.
The man quickly fidgeted with something, trying to hide it in his pants when the official confronted him.
The police searched him and found two plastic bags with yellowish powder inside. The suspected drugs were hidden in his underpants.
As they asked the suspect what it was he refused to tell them.
He was arrested and taken to Witbank Police Station.
On the way back to Old Coronation the police were informed about another alleged drug dealer that was doing business in the townships.
As they arrived at the premises a female opened the door and showed the police to the wanted person.
He was on his bed trying to hide something when they searched him. The police found two bags full of dagga hidden under the mattress and arrested him.
“We will not tolerate any drug users or dealers in eMalahleni anymore,” spokesperson for Witbank Police Station, Capt Eddie Hall concluded.
