The municipal building in Phola went up in flames after the protest turned violent.

On Monday, 13 August almost seven thousand residents from Phola took to the streets to deliver a memorandum of demands to executive mayor Cllr Lindah Malatjie.

Allegedly they were not able to meet with the major and the protest went from bad to worse.

At about 00:00 on Monday evening the municipal building in Phola went up in flames. The entire building burned down and all the offices inside were completely destroyed.

Two suspects have since been arrested for Public Violence and they are to appear before the Magistrate Court in Ogies today.

These two were allegedly arrested before the building was set alight.

Protestors are gathering again on Tuesday, 14 August at Vulindlela Street.
