Rescue effects continued at Gloria section

While the rescue efforts continue to retrieve the illegal miners, the people working for the Feed the Miner are working just as hard looking for donations

The previous week seven more bodies were found in Koornfontein Mine (Gloria section), but the rescue still continues as there are still a few more bodies in the mine.

The explosion under ground occurred on Monday, February 4 when several illegal miners were underground.

Mineral Resources Minister Gwede Mantashe paid the mine a visit on Friday, February 15 to see what was happening on the mine and the state the mine was in.

In a press release Minister Gwede Matashe said; “the priority remains to restore ventilation to Gloria mine and reduce flammable gases underground so the search and recovery process can continue with the necessary speed.”

On Wednesday, February 6 a couple of days after the explosion underground, four people were retrieved and on Wednesday, February 13 another seven bodies were retrieved.

It’s alleged that there is approximately another 15 illegal miners that need to be retrieved.

While the rescue efforts continue to retrieve the illegal miners, the people working for the Feed the Miner are working just as hard looking for donations.

Ms Zonica Mostert was contacted and asked what is it that they still need to help the families of the miners.

“At this stage we need meat and then food that can be kept for a period of time,” said Mostert.
