MEBS in Emalahleni has kicked off
109 young women and men were drawn from local municipalities for training in which 80 were appointed
The Mpumalanga Employment and Business Survey (MEBS) together with Statistics South Africa (Stats SA) are going around Steve Tshwete and Emalahleni local municipalities for data collection of different types of businesses and enterprises.
The data collection resumed on March 4 and will conclude at the end of April.
109 young women and men were drawn from local municipalities for training in which 80 were appointed.
They are visiting all business establishments to conduct interviews covering matters that affect or have an impact on businesses.
The launch of MEBS took place in eMalahleni on February 28 to officially introduce the initiative.
The first phase of data collection was conducted in the City of Mbombela and the second phase is targeted to the two municipalities in the Highveld.
MEC for Finance, Economic Development and Tourism, Mr Sikhumbuzo Kholwane said that the survey will assist in making a far better diagnosis of the underlying challenges we face in the economy.
“It is for this reason that I call upon the business community in Emalahleni and Steve Tshwete local municipalities and indeed all stakeholders to work together with us as we undertake this important business and employment survey,” said MEC Kholwane.
He further urged that all those who will be interviewed to provide as much accurate information as possible.
The results of the survey will be handed over to the Department of Economic Development and Tourism in September.
