Don’t sabotage the substation, says municipality

The damage to the substation is estimated to be in a region of R600 000

A substation supplying power to a large portion of Tasbet Park extensions, Duvha Park and more, have been thrown with a petrol bomb, nearly destroying the entire substation.

The incident appened in the early hours of Tuesday morning, March 12.

Mr Kingdom Mabuza, municipal spokesperson said that this is pure sabotage and the municipality can not be held responsible for such acts.

Municipal Manager, Mr Sizwe Mayisela, has spoken out against the petrol bombing of Mopane substation.

Mayisela pointed out that the burning of the substation would cause the municipality money which could have been channelled elsewhere.

“Such acts take us backwards and are very costly to the municipality,” he said.

The damage to the substation is estimated to be in a region of R600 000.

Part of the building, cables and panels were damaged.

Mopane substation is the main supplier of power to Duvha Park, Tasbet 2, Tasbet 3, and Uthingo Park.

Mayisela dispatched a high-powered team of electricians who managed to restore electricity supply.

Mayisela appealed to members of the community to safeguard Municipal assets.

“Members of the community must look after these assets because in essence these are their properties. When there are grievances people should not resort to attacking municipal properties,” warned Mayisela.

A case has been opened with police.
