Foetus’s alleged mommy found

A man was looking for food in the rubbish when he allegedly saw the foetus in a black bag

A 17-years-old girl was arrested for allegedly dumping a developed foetus in Hertzog Street.

The identifiable foetus of a baby girl was found in a rubbish pile in front of a house on March 6 around 12:30 in the afternoon.

A man was looking for food in the rubbish when he allegedly saw the foetus in a black bag.

He reported the foetus’s presence to the landlord of the house.

The landlord reportedly called the police to the scene.

It is unclear whether the foetus was subjected to a “self-abortion” (where the woman performs her own abortion) or whether the foetus was aborted through an illegal clinic or practitioner.

Captain Edward Hall of the Witbank SAPS emphasized that people need to be aware that this type of abortion is illegal.

“People should know that abortion has to be done the legal way or else they will be charged with concealment of birth.”

The girl appeared in Witbank Magistrate Court on Monday, March 11 for concealment of birth and the case was postponed to Monday, March 18.
