Chantel is heading for New York

The bubbly and cheerful learner from Curro Bankenveld

Receiving a 100% bursary to study full time in New York only means one thing, the 18-year-old Chantel Mokwalakwala is heading for the stars.

This achievement that was issued to her on March 30 made her dream even bigger after Safata (South African Film, Acting and Theatre Academy) personally congratulate her to partake in their special production and song cycle titled “Dreams”, a musical production.

The bubbly and cheerful learner from Curro Bankenveld that always takes initiative to put others first, told WITBANK NEWS more about herself.

“I write a lot of poetry especially when I’m down and that’s why I think I relate more to people who are in need of comfort in a world that lacks remorse,” she said.

Chantel is not only a poet and actress but love playing netball and sing in the choir.

When she was asked what it will mean to her to get the needed sponsors to go fulfill her dreams in New York,

she said: “This may sound cliché but it would mean the world to me more especially because I received a 100% full-time scholarship to make my dreams reality when I advance to further studies. Going to New York will give me an opportunity to leave a mark because when I walk on stage I attack the disadvantages we have in this world through poetry and when I do my monologues, I convey messages that are needed to be heard in our youth today but more playful and cheerful and sometimes serious.”

Because for Chantel film is all about making a philosophical statement and basically creating films that will repel tremendous effect on the future.

“Challenging one’s mind through psychology and philosophy especially in today’s ‘lost’ society but in a form of movies, that is my dream,” she added.

For this young and talented girl her biggest fans so far would be her sister/coach, Lesego Mokwalakwala.

“I have to point out that even though her dreams of becoming an actress felt inevitable after matric, her passion and drive for the arts will always be legendary. You don’t need to be seen to be heard,” Chantel said with pride.

As for her mother that is her rol model and the lady she looked up to she said, “My mother Tshidi Mamarega, not only did she raise me as a single parent but she pushed for my siblings and I to achieve the best, through the best schools and opportunities at every open door. She might seem like she’s doing too much but for her too much is always too little. She’s awesome, the best mom a daughter could ever ask for”.

Although she can not yet go to New York because of funds, she knows deep in her heart that the community of eMalahleni will help her follow her dreams and represent South Africa for the long run.

“My motto in life is that dreams lie in your subconscious, your mind is your tool, possibilities are life, opportunities become your trademark, but the light to your success is determined by the true you,” Chantel concluded.
