Police are cleaning out the streets

The police recently arrested nine people in two days found in possession of illegal substances suspected to be the drug heroin

It is not a secret that there are people who carry illegal substances with them and they should be warned that the police are determined to catch them.

The police recently arrested nine people in two days found in possession of illegal substances suspected to be the drug heroin.

The arrests were made on Saturday, April 27 and Sunday, 28, when most of the suspects ran away when they saw police vehicles.

The police chased after them and they were found with drugs.

Witbank SAPS Captain Edward Hall said that drug dealing and possession are serious crimes.

He explained the process before suspects of such cases can be sentenced for imprisonment.

“After a suspect has been arrested, they are either charged with drug possession or drug dealing. They appear in court the following day and their case is postponed for the police to send the substances that were found for tests and finalise the case. If the substances are found to be an illegal drug, then the case is put on the Magistrate’s Court roll.”

Raising the issue of drug houses around the city, he highlighted that the police are gathering information about the drug houses operating in eMalahleni.

He emphasized that if anyone is renting out a house and the tenants have some drug dealings there, the owner should kick such tenants out.

“If the house is found with drugs, the state will confiscate the house. The owner will lose the house or vehicle if there were drugs found in a vehicle,” he explained.

He added that the state will have the right to sell the house or vehicle on auction.

The community can report suspected drug dealing, drug possession or other crime on Crime Stop on 08600 1011.
