CPF wide awake in Del Judor 2
He then checked and he found the gate open and the bakkie missing
The swift reaction of Witbank Community Policing Forum (CPF) put a spanner in the works of car thieves.
On April 28 Mr Gerhardus Johannes Hartzenberg went to sleep at around 21:00.
He told police everything was fine at his house before he slipped into dreamland.
His Ford Kia was parked in front of the house in Matthew Street, Del Judor Ext 2.
At around 01:49 he received a phone call from his tracking company that told him that the battery of the bakkie was disconnected.
He then checked and he found the gate open and the bakkie missing.
Del Judor 2’s CPF immediately responded to the call and patrolled the area and spotted the stolen bakkie with two suspects inside.
The one suspect jumped out of the vehicle and ran away.
“The second suspect who is 25 years old was arrested in possession of the stolen vehicle and handed over to Witbank SAPS,” said Capt Eddie Hall, police spokesperson.
He appeared in Witbank Magistrate’s Court on April 29 on charges of theft of a motor vehicle.
