Vosman mourns death of two policemen

Mangwane had just started his career in the police, with only over a year of service.

Vosman Police lost two of their members in two weeks.

In the most recent incident Constable Stevens Oubaas Mangwane (32) was shot dead on April 30.

It is reported that Const Mangwane and his 29-year-old friend had just stepped out of a taxi when they were confronted by two unknown men.

The friend managed to run to the nearby houses to call for help when she heard the sound of a gunshot.

When she returned with people to assist, they found Mangwane’s body on the ground.

Mangwane had just started his career in the police, with only over a year of service.

He was stationed at Vosman.

He is originally from Lefisoane Village near KwaMhlanga and he was visiting relatives in Atteridgeville at the time he was killed.

Just two weeks earlier, on April 16 Lt Col Fana Simon Maseko was driving his Mercedes Benz into his driveway in Mtsuki Street in Ackerville when suspects shot him fatally.

According to national police spokesperson, Brigadier Vishnu Naidoo, the suspects fled without taking anything and the motive for the killing is unknown at this stage.

“The senseless attack on police officers is a continuing attack on the state. All the necessary resources as per the 72-Hour Activation Plan have been mobilised and we are not going to leave any stone unturned. The perpetrators of this heinous crime will be identified and the law will take its course,” said National Commissioner of Police General Khehla John Sitole.
