Retired nurses forge solidarity union

The essence of this event was to appreciate the old nurses

The Mthimkhulu Centre for the Aged in Lynnville does not just provide a home for the elderly but also a haven for the aged in the community as it proved with the function of retired old nurses.

This took place on May 17.

The essence of this event was to appreciate the old nurses which have spent their lives selflessly dedicated to serving the locals of Emalahleni.

Event organiser pastor Glen Makama told WITBANK NEWS that this was an initiative which he saw fit to get involved with over four years ago when he was first invited to one of the meetings of the retired nurses.

“I was invited to one of their meetings about four years ago and I saw how there was little to no support for these ladies and how unstructured their organisation was. My interest was instantly perked and I asked to be involved in the planning of their next event and pledged to sponsor it as well as aid in the organisation of it” he said.

The nurses celebrated their day in song and dance.

The union which these nurses have conjured with themselves is one which is rather special as they have managed to gather one another and establish a support structure for each other that sees them taking care of one another Makama elaborated.

“They look after one another, pray together along with hosting functions and organising trips that keep them busy” he noted.

“The next trip that we are trying to put together for them is one to the Kruger National Park. We are busy trying to get the necessary funding and sponsorships to make that happen.”

The group has been able to secure constant sponsorships over the years.

“Longstanding sponsorships that we have include Phemphetse Trading and Projects, pastor Sydney Mamonyane from Nafcoc, bishop Alfred Hlatshwayo and St Tabernacle church”
Makama said.

With the organization growing from strength to strength each year the group has plans on having a mini clinic where they want to assist old nurses who have retired.

That plan will only be made possible with more support and sponsorships.
