Robbers target Ga-Nala

They fled with a large amount of money.

Ga-Nala is bending knee under a spree of business robberies.

Last week a local garage and fast-food outlet was targeted.

To top it all off an automatic teller machine (ATM) was also blown up.

On Friday, May 17 Sgt Mlungiseni Sihlobo and Const September Mshayise responded to a call and found the Absa ATM blown to pieces.

Blue ink was all over the place.

“It seems that the suspects gained entry by forcing open palisades. According to an eyewitness there were three suspects,” said police spokesperson Const Angel Makubu.

She said the eyewitness said in a statement that the suspects spoke isiZulu.

They fled with a large amount of money.

Disasters and catastrophes always seem to come in threes.

However, for Ga-Nala it is four.

On Sunday, May 19 in the late afternoon Shoprite inside the shopping centre was robbed of an undisclosed amount of money.

A guard was shot during the robbery. It is not known how seriously the guard was injured.

Several attempts to get in contact with the security company to enquire about the guard were in vain.

“A group of armed men left the store within minutes after raiding the cash registers at the checkout,” said the Shoprite media team.

Shoprite immediately provided trauma counselling and will continue for those who require support.

“Shoprite does everything in its power to protect staff and customers as far as it is in its power to do so. Security measures include security guards stationed in-store as well as armed response services.”

“We need the community to come forward with information regarding this spree of crimes. If you know anyone who is involved in any of these robberies please make contact with us,” Const Makubu pleaded.
