Dog skin causes an upset

He is concerned about the situation and told residents to be on the look-out for any suspicious activities in the area

The old saying goes ‘A dog is a man’s best friend’.

So how do you skin your best friend and let it suffer an unspeakable torture.

On Saturday, June 15 Insp Nicolous Mahlangu from the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) was called to a house in Extension 8 where he was shown a dog’s skin.

“The skin was fairly ‘fresh’ even though it had the most horrendous smell.” Mahlangu said.

He is concerned about the situation and told residents to be on the look-out for any suspicious activities in the area.

Animal abuse can take place in different ways.

Kicking a dog because he is barking too much is abuse.

A house cat forced to live outdoors as it missed the litter box by a few inches is abuse.

There are many cases where the so-called civilized people put unwanted kittens in a bag and leave them out on a highway.

“There are many illegal as well as well-known breeders, who keep dogs under poor conditions, just so that they keep producing puppies like a machine that can be sold off as purebred dogs,” Mahlangu said.

“You must have heard of cock fights, dog fights, stallion fights and many other animal fights. People place bets on these poor animals to earn some fast cash. But have they ever given it a thought, a living creature is being killed or maimed for life for their lust for money?”
Mahlangu said he is appalled by every case of animal abuse.

“We live in civilized societies where every one of us is aware of our basic human right. This basic human right is live and let live. We have no right to torture any animal. Animals too feel the pain and are injured by torture. They do not need your sympathies. They need you to act and stop this abuse. If you see anyone beating or tethering their animal for no reason, report them to authorities.”

If you know of any animal abuse, contact the SPCA on 013 650 2321.
