VW Polo stolen and found in Soweto

A Classic VW Polo was reported stolen and was fortunately found in Soweto a few hours after it was reported.
The car belonging to Mr Charles Mabona was stolen at a residence complex in Tasbet 2 in Choir Street between Saturday night, June 22 and Sunday morning, June 23.
Mr Mabona said that he does not park his car inside a garage but parks it within the complex every night.
“I had parked my car in front of some lady’s garage in the complex on Saturday night, woke up in the morning on Sunday and found that my car was stolen.”
He explained that he called the tracking company to report the theft.
“The tracking company told me that they were able to track the car but I should also report the matter to the nearest police station as they continue pinning the exact location of the car.”

Mr Mabona said that he was distraught to find his car stolen that morning.
“I always hear people say their cars were stolen and I could not believe it that my car was stolen.”
He added: “Unfortunately, the suspects had caused some damage under the car, I think they were trying to remove the tracking device. There are also some damages inside the car but I am happy I found it.”
He urges his neighbours to be safe and put up good security measures to avoid such.
“I would like to encourage my neighbours to be on alert and protect their valuables because four other cars almost got stolen in my area on the same night, but apparently the suspects fled away when someone approached their direction.”
He added: “I would also like to encourage car owners to get at least a tracker for their cars. A tracker is approximately R110 per month.”
Witbank SAPS communications officer Sergeant David Ratau said that the police and tracking companies are partners in fighting crime.
“We work closely with tracking companies, and it is much easier to find stolen cars when they have a tracker.”
He added that most car owners or drivers drive around without two registration plates, one in front and one at the back. “Most of the drivers that drive without registration plates are regular offenders that take out their registrations to speed on the road and to avoid speed traps on the road. Always have both your registrations because it also helps to find stolen cars quicker.”
