Your destiny is in your hands young officials are told

Eighty officials from the Witbank management area contributed towards the celebration of the day.

Young correctional officials made sure that they were not left behind in celebration of a Youth Day.

The officials celebrated the day on Friday, June 14 at the recreational hall at Witbank Correctional Centre.

Eighty officials from the Witbank management area contributed towards the celebration of the day.

According to the officials they wanted to ensure that they recognise the fallen heroes who sacrificed their lives for the entire youth of the country.

The area commissioner, Reverend Mandla Sibanyoni, told young people that they are classified as young people due to their high energy levels.

He advised young people to commit themselves on a high level.

“We have expectations from young people, from the manner in which they behave to how they do things; the next area commissioner must come from your ranks,” noted Reverend Sibanyoni.

The area commissioner told the youth to use government employment as a stepping stone, “How many of you are writing exams now, how many are registered?” he asked.

He further directed the youth to study and take the management area forward.

Reverend Sibanyoni did not mince his words when he said that the destiny of each person is in their hands.

In encouraging young people to support their families once they have achieved something, he beseeched them not to kick away the ladder preventing the younger generation to progress.

The reverend was very profound in his address when guiding young people not to forget where they come from.

He referred to ‘black tax’ which young people complain about often, “You need to assist others at home to be where you are,” he added.

He alluded to the fact that the choices made by youths are affected by the friends they associate with.

“You need friends who will support you in doing good things and progressing in life,” he said. He warned everyone against keeping friends who don’t motivate one to be a better person in life. The area commissioner thanked the organisers of the event and promised them that he would not disapprove requests for events which empower young people and bring unity in the management area.
