Rail education for the public
The initiative was prompted by the number of incidents that happen on railway lines and train stations nationwide said Rachel Setswe from RSR.
Commuters who use the Klarinet railway crossing were treated to a pop information session about railway safety as they headed to their morning destinations.
Railway Safety Regulator (RSR), SAPS rapid rail police and Mpumalanga community safety and security liaison came out in full support on the morning of Tuesday June 25, at the Klarinet railway crossing to disseminate and educate the public about railway etiquette.
The initiative was prompted by the number of incidents that happen on railway lines and train stations nationwide said Rachel Setswe from RSR.
In response, the initiative was intended to address the situation from grassroots level and Setswe noted that it meant creating awareness for railway users, motorists and pedestrians alike.
“We are gathered together with different stakeholders to communicate this message of awareness to our people. We believe that if we work together as different stakeholders, the public will see that we are united in delivering this message and they will realise our attempts to address the challenges that we face” she noted.
The morning routine went underway as different commuters were stopped for quick information sessions on railway safety and given pamphlets to read more about how to conduct themselves when approaching a railway line.
