St Thomas tackles plastic waste

These projects include the collection of 2 litre bottle lids and bread tags, which also leads to the donation of wheelchairs to deserving individuals

In an extra effort to save the environment from being polluted by unrecyclable plastics, St Thomas Aquinas School has started collecting materials and making Eco Bricks with them.

High School, Head of FET, Ms Anthea Lindley, delivered an eye-opening presentation on plastic recycling to the learners and went on to explain how to make an Eco Brick.

Furthermore, the Head of Religion, Ms Colleen Deiner, is determined to make the school litter free and continuously encourages the younger learners in the school to also make Eco Bricks so everyone in the school is involved.

These Eco Bricks will then be used to make modular furniture such as benches.

In this way, the whole school is very excited about the prospect of sitting on something that has been created by the hands of the people at the school.

This project is part of the school’s commitment to the environment.

Not only has St Thomas been a recognized Eco-School for the past nine years but it also runs other “green” projects throughout the year.

These projects include the collection of 2 litre bottle lids and bread tags, which also leads to the donation of wheelchairs to deserving individuals.
