Real men don’t rape – no means no to stranger or spouse

In the last week seven rapes were reported all around eMalahleni and two men were arrested up to date.

As women are celebrated in the month of Augusts, the number of cases being opened for rape is increasing by the day.

“We are not even in the middle of August and already 11 cases of rape were opened at the station,” spokesperson from Witbank Police Station, Cpt Eddie Hall stated on Tuesday, August 13.

In the last week seven rapes were reported all around eMalahleni and two men were arrested up to date.

On August 6 two rapes occurred in two different areas.

In the first incident that took place in Tasbet Park the victim alleged that her partner forced her to have sex with him, it was further alleged that he held a firearm against her head telling her that it’s long overdue and he wants sex or else he will shoot her.

In another rape case on the same day the victim alleged that she was hitch-hiking on the N4 Freeway when two men travelling in a white Volkswagen Polo stopped next to her.

It is believed that the men said they were on their way to the same destination that the victim wanted to go, so she accepted the lift.

While travelling with the two suspected rapists the victim was offered a drink by one suspect.

Allegedly after drinking the soda, she could not remember a thing.

The victim woke up in a bush next to the freeway with her clothes lying next to her.

On August 8 it was alleged by the victim that she returned home after a day at work and found that her roommate was still awake.

It is believed that when she entered the house, the suspect pointed her with a firearm, demanding sex.

After repeatedly saying no, the man dragged her to the room and forcefully removed her clothes and raped her.

On August 10, National Women’s day, a shockingly four rapes were reported at the police station.

In the first incident the victim alleged that she and her friends were at a local tavern enjoying a girls’ night out when a group of men started ‘chilling’ with them.

It was further alleged that the men invited them to their house in Jackaroo Park.

When they got there they had a few more drinks and went to a room to rest.

The victim then alleged that when she woke up the next morning her pants were off and she smelled semen.

Another lady fell into the hands of two alleged rapists in a white Volkswagen Polo on the evening of August 10.

She alleged that she was walking in Mandela Drive when two men stopped next to her offering her a lift.

It is believed that after she accepted a lift, the two men started harassing her, asking for sexual favours.

She allegedly said no and wanted to get out of the vehicle.

The men then forced her to have sex before giving her belongings back and letting her go.

As Women’s day came to an end, another lady’s rights were taken away as her husband allegedly raped her after she refused to have sex with him because he was drunk.

“It is shocking to know that the raping statistics doubled from 2018. We had seven rapes overall in August last year and we already standing on double that in only halfway through the month, two of the suspected rapists was arrested to date. It is becoming a big concern for the police and we urge the women not to walk alone during the day or night. Do not accept any lift from a stranger,” Cpt Eddie Hall concluded.
