Frightful hijacks on the N12

The couple then cooperated with the suspects as they feared for their lives

A couple suffered a carjack as they were on their way to eMalahleni.

The man alleged that he and his wife were driving on the N12 National Road when they noticed a car flashing blue lights behind them.

The incident took place on Friday, August 23 at 19:00 in the evening.

The couple pulled over their white Toyota Hilux as they were under the impression that it could be the police.

A male allegedly got out of the car and came to the man’s driver’s side and asked for his license.

Allegedly, two other males were trying to open the wife’s door and one of the suspects took out a firearm and pointed it to the man.

The couple then cooperated with the suspects as they feared for their lives.

The suspects put the couple on the backseat and tied them with cable ties and drove away.

The wife somehow managed to get hold of the tracker’s panic button and their tracking company called immediately.

The suspects stopped and tried to figure out where the tracker could be placed, but it is unclear if they managed to find it or not.

They drove with them till where the suspects told them that Carnival City is near.

The couple was let out of the car and they walked to where they could get hold of a phone and called the wife’s sister to come and pick them up.

The suspects also took four phones and cash of R2 400.

The case was transferred from Brakpan Police Station to Phola Police Station.

A truck hijacking was also reported at Phola Police Station on Wednesday, August 21 at around 20:00 in the evening.

The truck was traveling on the N12 loaded with disposable nappies and washing powder.

Allegedly a white VW Polo overtook the truck and stopped in front of it. An unknown male came out of the Polo and told the truck driver that the trailer lights are off.

The truck driver got out and noticed that his trailer lights are on.

He then saw someone allegedly pointing a firearm at him.

The suspect with the firearm instructed him to get into the Polo and they drove off with him and it is unknown where the man was taken and the truck.
