Second Baby Safe Box launched

This amazing project just puts Victim Support on the map again as this support group has been running for years already

The heartbreaking reality of babies being dumped or abandoned by their own mothers is real in eMalahleni but thanks to a generous donor the South African Community Crime Watch (SACCW) launched their second Baby Safe Box.

WITBANK NEWS continuously did articles on the baby safe box project as the first box was installed in Mandela Drive at New Life Church.

A few weeks later a second article was published about the baby box that was fully financed for Spring Valley by an anonymous angel in our midst who saw the need.

“After the box was financed by the generous donor we immediately jumped into action with the planning and manufacturing of the second SACCW baby safe box. We are proud to announce that our baby safe box has been installed and was activated on Friday the 15th of November,” said Maureen Scheepers from SACCW

The ‘Spring Valley Box’ has been installed at 11 Vulture Street, Reyno Ridge at a site provided by Antoinette Deiner and her team from Witbank Victim Support.

This amazing project just puts Victim Support on the map again as this support group has been running for years already.

Another initiative that sparked from the Baby Safe Box Project was the ‘care bag’ for each baby that will be placed in any SACCW baby safe box.

This bag will consist of everything a newborn baby needs; any donations to this cause will be highly appreciated.

Donations can be dropped off at 23A Geringer Street, Del Judor Proper from Monday to Thursday between 08:00 to 16:00.

All donations for the care packs will be managed by Yolandé de Beer and for any special arrangements please contact her directly on 083 217 0904.

As for ER24 ambulance services that has a national service level agreement with SACCW, the ER24 Witbank Branch is fully on board to attend to and transport all babies that will be placed in any of the boxes.

Exactus Risk Management will be monitoring all baby safe boxes 24/7 free of charge to contribute to this initiative.

“One of my greatest dreams was to open a hole in the wall for babies, well this week it became a reality with the help of SACCW and all the generous sponsors and roll players on board,” said Antoinette Deiner from Victim Support.

The Baby Safe Box will now give a safer alternative to mothers of the area who would have otherwise abandoned their babies in dangerous places leading to their death.

“We have met up with community leaders from the area and will be starting shortly with a massive campaign to promote this very important resource to the community of Spring Valley”, Scheepers concluded.
