eMalahleni is still a hotspot of carjacking
Again, the city of coal dominates Mpumalanga hijacking rankings as all stations hit the top 30.
eMalahleni remains one of the province’s carjacking capitals. This was revealed by the Mpumalanga MEC for Community Safety, Security, and Liaison, Jackie Macie, during the first quarter of the 2026/2027 financial year, covering the April 1 to June 30 statistics report on September 8.
According to the statistics, Vosman ranked first in Mpumalanga for carjacking, with Witbank ranking second.
The problem stretches beyond these two stations. Other nearby policing areas also appear on the provincial list: Phola Police Station ranked ninth, Ogies Police Station twelth, and Kriel Police Station 23rd.
“These figures are not a public-relations scoreboard; they are an instrument of accountability. They show where intervention is working, where criminal patterns are changing and where leadership, deployment and resources must be strengthened. Behind every number is a victim, a family and a community. We will therefore recognise progress without exaggeration and confront deterioration without denial,” Macie said.
