Three vehicles swept into Ngoriyana River at Vulindlela Street in Phola

According to a media statement released by the Phola SAPS, all occupants of the vehicles managed to evacuate from the cars safely

Three vehicles, a white Toyota Corolla, silver-grey BMW and a white Toyota Avanza were swept into Ngoriyana River at Vulindlela Street in Phola.

The incident took place this morning at about 06:00.

According to a media statement released by the Phola SAPS, all occupants of the vehicles managed to evacuate from the cars safely.

“Emahlaleni Disaster Management was informed to assess the matter,” as stated.

The incident is caused by the pouring rain since the past weeks which caused the river to rise and overflow into the road.

Phola SAPS communications officer, Constable Thabang Ntuli warned all road users to avoid using Vulindlela Street to Mashaba Drive.

“Instead, they should opt for Vulindlela Street to Dlomo Street if they want to go to New Stand section, Bhodli Section, Dark City and Iraq Section.”

He added that the river is full and is too risky to attempt to cross.
