Gearing up for 12th Relay for Life

Every year over 115 000 people in South Africa are affected by cancer

Pull your calendar closer and make a huge purple dot on March 21 and March 22.

That is when the Cansa Relay for Life will be taking place.

“This is our 12th Relay for Life,” said Andries du Preez from Cansa.

Every year over 115 000 people in South Africa are affected by cancer.

The Cansa Relay for Life is a unique event that offers everyone in the community the opportunity to participate in the fight against cancer.

It represents hope that those who are fighting cancer will be supported; those lost to cancer will never be forgotten and one day cancer will be eliminated.

Relay for Life takes place overnight and lasts up to 24 hours long, and because cancer never sleeps, each team has at least one participant on the track at all times.

Each team participates in fundraising in the months leading up to the event.

“During the event we create awareness about cancer during a jam packed 12 hour event consisting of entertainment, group activities, fundraising, awareness, survivor and care giver recognition and many more,” Andries said.

Cansa Relay for Life will be taking place at Saturday, March 21 from 18:00 till Sunday, March 22 at 06:00 at Highveld Mall’s undercover parking area.

Team commitment fee is R1 200 per team of 10 to 15 people or R100 per person pre-registered.

Luminaria bags are included for team entries.

Come dressed in purple.
