Council meeting focus on problems
Analysis in the cost structures and setup of the By-law were some of the concerns raised
Emalahleni is known for their faults from potholes to water sanitation.
On Thursday, February 27 a Council meeting was held and was open to the public at the eMalahleni Local Municipal building in Central Business District (CBD).
The DA (Democratic Alliance) tackled items from the agenda of the Council meeting by tabling questions and seeking clarity and commitment in addressing the concerns and ensuring transparency is achieved by debating these points.
The Electrical By-law review was on the radar of Cllr Naritha Naidu, although the public had time to review the proposed By-law, the DA added their voice to theirs -on the implications this reviewed By-law has in replacing the outdated 10-year-old by-law.
Analysis in the cost structures and setup of the By-law were some of the concerns raised.
Then the Small Scale Embedded Generation Policy (SSEG) came into the cross hair and the management of the fees and tariffs that will be paid to residential and commercial generation and feedback into Network by successful applicants of the SSEG program for Municipalities.
The item of Water and Sanitation Master Plan at a time where our City is feeling the effects of not having water regularly made the DA seek solution and commitments as stipulated in the Master plan to improve effective, sustainable provision of water as well as improvement in quality. And the plan should not just be a paper exercise but address the skills issue and implement practical solutions for the residents of Emalahleni – The item referred to Water treatment plants and interventions and refurbishments for the near future.
The Eskom account was also on the agenda and again the Municipality acknowledged the commitment to service or in-ability to fully pay this month’s Eskom account.
