As South Africa enters it fifth week of lockdown, the health department has seized the opportunity of civilian self-isolation to intensify testing efforts in an attempt to halt the virus’ spread. On Wednesday evening, while updating the country on the latest COVID-19 statistics, Health Minister Zweli Mkhize reiterated that early detection was a fundamental factor in the successful fight against the deadly coronavirus.
From April 10 a massive home screening initiative was rolled out in Emalahleni Local Municipality. This is part of the South African government’s COVID Home Visits Programme, endorsed by President Cyril Ramaphosa, to increase the effectiveness and reach of national coronavirus testing.
Health care workers are visiting homes in villages, towns and cities to screen residents.
