Happy to be at Ethembeni

A group of homeless people taken from the streets of the city were taken to Ethembeni Children’s Haven under guardianship Bishop Jeremiah Zulu to reduce the spread of the deadly coronavirus.

The drive by the Mpumalanga MEC for Social Development Ms Thandi Shongwe in partnership with executive mayor Cllr Linah Malatjie was able to put the first group of more than 16 homeless people in the shelter.

It was also reported that about 430 homeless people have been placed in different shelters around the province. This is part of heeding the call to place them in shelters during the lockdown.

“We are happy that our lives have changed since we arrived here. We are taken good care of as we are provided with support and love. We are looking forward to a better future and we are not going back to our past. We are now able to have breakfast, lunch and supper at the shelter. We thanked everybody for all the prayers and support. We promise that we will repay that trust that has been shown to us for a better future,” said Robert Magare.
