Cyclist injured – Do you know what happened?

All road users should display mutual respect for one another’s lives, whether a pedestrian, runner, cyclist, motorcyclist, motorist, taxi driver or truck driver

A collision with a vehicle is the greatest fear most people have about cycling; this fear became a reality for a local cyclist.

On June 6 in the afternoon, the cyclist was involved in a suspected ‘car-on-bike’ collision in Alpine Street, Highveld Park.

Unfortunately, the victim had no memory on what exactly happened to him.

It was then when his son took to social media pleading with the community for assistance with any information on the incident.

“My dad was knocked out to wake up and not remember a thing. We believe this was a hit and run due to the nature of his extremely severe injuries and the fact that he is a very experienced cyclist and won’t just wake up in the street randomly. A person at one of the houses came out to find him knocked out as they heard a loud noise,” the distraught son posted on social media.

As for many, cycling is a means to maintain a healthy lifestyle and to keep fit.

Many depend on cycling to reach their destination daily, be it for commuting to work or school.

As incidents of a hit and run is increasing daily all road users are urged, regardless of your reasons for being on the road, to please exercise caution and obey the rules of the road.

All road users should display mutual respect for one another’s lives, whether a pedestrian, runner, cyclist, motorcyclist, motorist, taxi driver or truck driver.

The Highveld Park Neighbourhood watch group’s management is working on gathering video footage from their members in Alpine Street and surrounding streets to gain information to assist the family.
