Phola Station Commander Lt-Col Nape Philemon Matlala appealed to the community to comply with the Disaster Management Act and COVID-19 rules and regulations.

“Rules are relaxed and police are still controlling movements of people in the streets and enforcing COVID-19 protocols at funerals and sale of liquor,” stated in a media statement released by Phola communications officer Sergeant Thabang Ntuli on behalf of Lt-Col Matlala.

The statement also states the following arrests: Four people were charged for illegal immigration, two people were charged for selling cigarettes and for running a shebeen. Two people were arrested for driving under the influence of liquor and six people were arrested for consuming liquor in public.

A man was also arrested for allegedly stealing a computer at a local school and was caught trying to sell it. All these arrests were made in the first two weeks of June.

Members of the public can report any crime or suspicious activities to their nearest police stations and can make use of the MySAPS app, the crime hotline 08600 10111 or the SMS line 32211.
