Chantelle colours the world in bright pink

Instead of listening to music, you become the music in this exhilarating full-body workout that combines cardio, conditioning, and strength training with yoga and pilates-inspired movements

You must have seen the fitness-guru with the bright pink hair and contagious smile.

Chantelle Vorster who is renowned for her Pound-sessions has recently featured in the International Federation of Body Building’s official magazine, Muscle and Health Magazine.

This honour came after she was invited to represent Pound at one of the biggest fitness events in the country, the Arnolds Classic Africa that would be held in May.

But then Covid-19 stepped in and the event was cancelled.

In May it was decided to hold an Arnold’s Virtual Fitness Fiesta and Chantelle was invited to be part of it.

“Can you imagine how excited I was?” Chantelle said.

The fitness fiesta is a virtual fitness marathon held over 10 weeks on alternate Fridays and Saturdays on the Zoom App, which is available on all computers and devices for free.

This event includes many major fitness brands in South Africa.

There is Pound, Piloxing, Zumba, Strong Nation and Power Bands.

There is truly something for everyone, living up to the true nature of the Arnold’s Classic Africa event.

“Each week we set out to do 120 minutes of exercise and just celebrate being alive and healthy and the event is absolutely free,” Chantelle explained.

Chantelle was given two sets of 30 minutes Pound classes in the event and will soon be hosting her third set.

Chantelle’s fitness journey started after her second pregnancy.

“After my second pregnancy, I went into a hole. I cut myself off from the world. I was overweight and depressed. I couldn’t stop myself from eating everything and I told myself I didn’t care what people thought about me. It made me negative and one day I decided enough was enough, I tried doing workouts at home and finally joined a gym. I fell pregnant for the third time, which was a real surprise,” Chantelle said.

After the pregnancy, she did lose some weight but was still not happy with herself.

“One day I got advice from a pretty soft-spoken woman in the gym about doing pull-ups. Little did I know my life would change dramatically from that day. This woman owned a bootcamp. The thought of jumping around with a bunch of women made me cringe. But she invited me to a class and I went.”

The rest is history.

Gusmari Maritz at G’s Ultimate changed Chantelle’s life.

“I joined her bootcamp and lost 30kg. She made me fall in love with exercise and with myself again. The knowledge and wisdom that this woman possesses about fitness is unbelievable.”

After three years of full-on training, Gusmari told Chantelle it is time to step up and do an instructor training.

That opened a whole new world for her.

Today Chantelle is qualified in Group Fitness, Bootcamp, Metafit, Rebound and her absolute favourite, Pound.

Pound is a fitness-craze that altered the conventional method of exercise.

Instead of listening to music, you become the music in this exhilarating full-body workout that combines cardio, conditioning, and strength training with yoga and pilates-inspired movements.

Using lightly weighted drumsticks engineered specifically for exercising, Pound transforms drumming into an incredibly effective way of working out.

“In short it is an extreme rock concert and you are the star. It is loud, it is crazy and it helps you release anything bringing you down,” she said.

Hubby Kelvin and girls Trinity, Skyla and Roxanne keep Chantelle grounded.

“If I had to do it all over again, I would not change a thing. They are what I live for and make me want to be a better person – someone for them to look up to and be proud of.”

Chantelle has a Facebook page called Journey of a Unicorn.

“I liked Unicorns before they were cool. Calling myself a Unicorn in no way means I am a magical mystical creature. It means I am trying to be the one of a kind person I was meant to be.”

Chantelle concluded with a bit of wisdom, “We are all running through life lately and we often forget to stop and look at all we have been through and all we have accomplished. Just believe that no matter what, you are worth it.”

If you feel life throws lemons at you, go visit Journey of a Unicorn and share in Chantelle’s unique way of looking at life, then take the lemons and make champagne and leave the whole world wondering how you did it.
