Fundraiser was a ‘barking’ success

Doc Nolan and Liz had furry-friends spending the cold below zero nights with them

After 14 nights in the kennels at the SPCA local vet Dr Nolan Landman and SPCA committee member Ms Liz Oberholzer are officially off the hook.

Doc Nolan and Liz had to spend nights in the kennels for a fundraiser that exceeded all expectations.

The #KeepThemCagedIn journey ended on Sunday, July 19.

They spend nights in the kennels with only cardboard boxes for beds and doggy blankets to cover them for every R5 000 pledged in the first week, in week two for every R10 000 pledged.

All together R145 578.20 was raised.

At the first meeting to pull all the strings of the fundraiser together, Doc Nolan laughed and said it will be an easy task as he only foresees spending three nights maximum in the kennels.

But little did he know that residents in eMalaheni have big hearts and the money kept rolling in.

Doc Nolan and Liz had furry-friends spending the cold below zero nights with them.

“All my furry companions I slept with had a special place in my heart, they were all unique. My highlights for the past 14 days were being able to tuck my partner in at night and say, ‘You’re going to be okay tonight’,” Liz said.

There were also moments where emotions took over and tears rolled down her face.

“Listening to the dogs crying and howling at night not knowing why they were there and all they want is a good home is soul-destroying,” Liz said.

Both Liz and Doc Nolan will be sponsoring their ‘executive suites’ they slept in.

Sponsoring a kennel is so easy.

For an R125 per month debit order, your personalised board will be displayed on the kennel of your choice.

Doc Nolan also wrote off all the debt the SPCA owes Witbank Veterinary Hospital.

“We are humbled and overwhelmed with all the donations and adoptions happening at the moment. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts,” Ms Natalie Pretorius SPCA manager said.

The following sponsors deserve a high five for making this fundraiser the success it is, CSC Virtual Guarding and Firmlinx for the virtual footage of the project, Saveways Spar for taking Doc Nolan and Liz doggy bags to nibble on at night and WITBANK NEWS for the media coverage.

“A huge thank you to Nolan and Liz for offering your time and giving up on your comfort and warm beds. Then to all the amazing sponsors who donated so generously, thank you very much. Last but not least our amazing staff and committee members for all the effort, thank you,” Natalie said.
