Well-known jazz player Basie Mankge, better known as ‘Bra Count’ has passed on. He died on Tuesday, August 18 after a short illness.

He was laid to rest at the Old Pretoria Road Cemetery on Friday, August 21 at the age of 72.

He was a resident of Ackerville in eMalahleni.

Basie is regarded as one of the musical legends to come out of eMalahleni with a career spanning over 50 years and was the bandleader and pianist of the legendary jazz outfit called, ‘The Free Sounds’.

In the early eighties, he ventured into the building construction industry and was also involved in a number of businesses.

Bra Count leaves behind his wife, children and three sisters.
