Witbank Dam dropping to 92.2%

Loskop Dam slipped from 95.9% to 94.6% and the critically low Rhenosterkop Dam further dropped from 1.2% to a critical 1.1%.

The latest Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) weekly state of reservoirs report shows that water volumes in the listed dams in Mpumalanga continue to drop week-on-week.

The report of September 28 shows the average levels dropped further from last week’s 66.6% to 65.8%, leaving 1 669.5 cubic meters of water available in storage out of the required full capacity of 2538.6 cubic meters.

The report also shows that water levels continue to dwindle in the water management areas (WMA), with the Olifants WMA dropping from 62.0% to 61.2% and the Inkomati-Usuthu WMA dropping from 63.6% to 62.7%.

All the listed dams in the Nkangala District also continue to drop in water levels, with Witbank Dam dropping to 92.2% and Middelburg Dam dropping from 85.0% to 83.8%.

Loskop Dam slipped from 95.9% to 94.6% and the critically low Rhenosterkop Dam further dropped from 1.2% to a critical 1.1%.

“In line with the continuous drop in water levels, the Department of Water and Sanitation encourages the public to continue to use the available water in a more efficient and wise manner, taking into account that South Africa is a water scarce country and the fact that water has no substitute,” said Mr Themba Khoza from DWS.
