Granny in a shack of misery

It is always misery for Gogo Emily Deliwe Masango (70) and her family whenever it rains in her tiny shack in Empumelelweni.
Gogo Masango who has been staying in the open shack since 2012 together with her two children and two grandchildren.

She applied for an RDP house and what came after that have been promises and more promises.
“I have been promised an RDP house for a long time while my children were still young and I have waited for all these years. Last month bricks were delivered with gravel, and we hoped that at least something was happening, but after that, they are still outside my yard,” said Gogo Masango.
Gogo Masango is staying with her 48-year-old and 32-year-old daughters and three grandchildren who are eight years and three years.
The family is struggling to make ends meet.

“We have been promised a better life for all, but for me and my family it has been a worse life and getting worse every year. My dream is to have an RDP house and live comfortably. The roof is leaking very bad and sometimes we have to sleep at our neighbour’s house as water comes in,” added Gogo Masango.
Site manager Mr Ted Mathebula of TSSN Carries said the problem has been a breakdown in communication between the stakeholders, but has tried his best to fast track the building of the house for Gogo Masango.

“Bricks and gravel have been delivered and the only reaming thing is the approval letter, and we will deliver the rest of the material. We will also arrange for a TLB to clear the stand, and then we will start building,” said Mr Mathebula.
Mr Jerry Magagula, site inspector also retaliated what Mr Mathebula said and promised that they will start building the house in October.
