Empty promises lead students to strike
The students, enrolled at Tshwane University of Technology (TUT), allege that they were promised uncapped WiFi and more security at the beginning of the 2019 academic year

Students stood in and outside of their residence at Corridor Hill and started a fire trying to get the attention of management.
This strike took place on Wednesday morning, November 4.
The students, enrolled at Tshwane University of Technology (TUT), allege that they were promised uncapped WiFi and more security at the beginning of the 2019 academic year.

With a hike in online assessments due to Covid-19 restrictions, students have had a greater need for the promised uncapped WiFi.
The students continue to receive only 1 GB of data monthly.
The accommodation houses 1 550 students and there are concerns about high rates of crime and general safety.

The students allege that only two security guards are on duty at a time.
The security guards do not have any firearms and there are no cameras around the premises.
