Watch out for crocs in the Zaaihoek area

Piet Wassenaar said they are aware of about seven crocs in the Zaaihoek area.

Residents are warned to be extra vigilant close do dams and streams in the Zaaihoek area.

Mr Piet Wassenaar, known for catching snakes, caught a two-meter crocodile on a farm in the area on December 17.

“The Mpumalanga Tourist and Park Agencies are busy with an investigation to establish where the crocs come from,” Piet said.

Crocs are not common in the eMalahleni area and are usually seen in the Loskop area.

The owner of the farm, who wishes to stay anonymous, said he often sees families fish in the area while children play in rivers and streams. He said he is concerned that this is a tragedy waiting to happen.

One of the crocs attempted to catch a severely injured calf on the farm.

Piet said they are aware of about seven crocs in that specific area.
