Video footage shows how Tertius du Plessis exits Eden Park Retirement Village in Ms Johanna Rosouw’s car.

With these words hanging in the air in Witbank Magistrate’s Court the 36-year-old Tertius du Plessis admitted that he killed the 86-year-old Ms Johanna Rossouw on January 31.
Du Plessis briefly appeared in Witbank Magistrate’s Court on Friday, February 5. He denied the chance to apply for bail.
“I am guilty, I confessed,” he told the court.
The case was postponed to April 8.
Du Plessis was arrested after he handed himself over to the authorities at Mondeor Police Station on Wednesday, February 3.
He has five other cases pending against him. This includes possession of dagga, theft, and house break-in.
Rossouw was found in her home in Edenpark Retirement Village when a security guard at the entrance grew suspicious when she did not recognise the driver of Rossouw’s white Honda Jazz as he attempted to flee the scene.
Video footage shows how Du Plessis signals the security guard to open the gate.
She, however, grew suspicious when she did not recognise him and did not open the gate. He then reached over to the passenger side and got hold of what is believed to be Rossouw’s remote.
Du Plessis reverses and tries to get exit through the entrance gate. The security guard immediately alerts her superiors as she hurries away to safety as Du Plessis reverses again.
This time it seems that Du Plessis managed to open the gate with the remote.
It is believed that Du Plessis gained entrance to the retirement village by climbing into a nearby tree next to the cement palisades surrounding the retirement village. He then apparently maneuvered himself over the wall.
Rossouw’s family thanked the police and the media for the role they played in the arrest. They asked for some privacy to mourn Rossouw’s death.
The owner of the security company that wishes to remain anonymous said, “We have to look out for one another. Crime is going to increase and the current Covid-19 situation plays a large role.”
He said the security company will continue to assist the police in the investigation.
