Emalahleni’s Eskom bill is touching R5 billion

The municipality is gearing up and getting ready as winter is knocking on the door and that means additional charges when Eskom’s Notified Maximum demand tariffs kicks in.

We asked our readers what they think the municipality owes Eskom. There were some very interesting answers.

Thokozani Maseko said R2 billion

Martie Nel’s guess is R41 380 513 104 000 000.00

Eugene Humphries’ guess of R5.1 billion was the closest.

The reality is that Emalahleni’s Eskom debt is set to reach the R5 billion bar very soon. 

Eskom billed the municipality R254.6 million for January, February, and March. The municipality managed to pay R129 million of the billed amount. The interest alone in the three months is R36.6 million.
