Pure muscle power brings the boys into Mossel Bay
The total distance the cyclist completed was 1 470km in eight days
With pure muscle power in the legs, the three cyclists from eMalahleni who said they would cycle for Rizpah completed their journey to Mossel Bay.
On Saturday, May 29 the three cyclists Gert Nagel, Wihl Vermaak and Barry Crouch arrived in Mossel Bay.
It was a moment that nobody could describe, but the joy on their faces spoke a thousand words.
The total distance the cyclist completed was 1 470km in eight days.
They started their journey on Saturday, May 22 from the Nederduits Gereformeerde Kerk in Klipfontein, eMalahleni. A group of cyclists joined them on their first stretch.
The three cyclists had some tough days out on the road where wind was a problem and they hit many dirt roads which challenged them.
Over all they are pleased what they managed to accomplish.
“It was a good experience and I am glad to have completed it,” said Wihl.
On the last day of cycling the three cyclists set a challenge for one another to see who could be the king of the mountain. Barry managed to get out of his set and pushed up the last pass to be the king of the mountain.
“It was a great adventure and I am so glad I was able to do it. Can’t wait for the next one,” said Barry with a laugh.
Money for Rizpah is still coming into the bank account.
“I would just like to thank Barry and Wihl. It was such a great adventure; some days we laughed a lot on the bike and other days it was dead quite on the bike, we just put our earphones in and went on with our day on the bike,” said Gert.
The next adventure is already being planned and there is a challenge out to all the other cyclists from eMalahleni to be a part of it.
“This was an unbelievable challenge done by these three men for Rizpah. From Rizpah side we are so privileged for what has happened. To the cyclists who opened up their hearts and took on this challenge for the children. For all the support from organizations, families and friends. Then most importantly to everyone that donated, they received amounts from R50 to R30 000 and so far the amount is R95 000. We wanted R100 000, so we are R5000 short. We would like to ask the community to carry on donating so we can make our target,” said Anet Jansen from Rizpah.
The account is Rizpah, Cheque Account, ABSA, account number 4062248103 branch code 623005, reference Mossel Bay.
