Witnesses take stand as Cascar Nkosi trial continues in High Court

State witnesses continue taking the stand as Cascar Nkosi stands trial on at least 28 charges, including child rape and kidnapping in eMalahleni and Mhluzi.

State witnesses continue to take the stand in the Mpumalanga Division of the High Court in Middelburg as Cascar Nkosi (39) stands trial on at least 28 charges, including the rape and kidnapping of children in Mhluzi and eMalahleni.

The trial started on October 19, with Nkosi initially facing 26 charges of kidnapping involving children aged between seven and 13 – to which he pleaded not guilty.

However, he pleaded guilty to three separate charges involving a woman: two counts of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, and contravening a protection order.

Nkosi has remained in custody since his arrest in January 2025. He was arrested while attending court in Vosman for an unrelated assault case.

His arrest followed investigations linking him to at least 10 reported cases of sexual assault and abduction across eMalahleni and Mhluzi, dating back to 2023.

The trial is expected to run until November 6, with more state witnesses scheduled to take the stand this week as activists and community members monitor proceedings closely.

“We remain hopeful that justice will be served, and we are very thankful for all the support we are receiving,” Kwanele-Mama Foundation chairperson Vinolia Mashiane added.
