Did you receive your municipal account yet?
More than 27 000 faulty accounts hit the streets this month
Not only has the municipality not issued accurate accounts, but they are also not on time.
The accounts were only loaded on the municipality’s website late yesterday afternoon.
The municipality switched over to a new billing system and 27 983 faulty accounts were issued.
Mr Riaan Maritz was furious when he received his account after he received the following SMS: “Dear ELM Consumer, your municipal account nr 2016281 has been issued for R16 648.67 and is payable on or before 07/07/2021. Including arrears.”
Maritz was apparently told that the municipality captured the wrong tariffs for water after the increased tariffs were implemented in July last year. Because of this error, residents were paying the previous years’ tariff for July, August, September, and October 2020. Because of the sliding scale for water usage, consumers also received a ‘fine’ for using more water.
His account was reviewed and he now only has to pay R2 708.14.
“Thank you WITBANK NEWS for taking this up with the municipality. We never get any reaction out of them,” he said.
