eMalahleni is getting some TLC

eMalahleni is getting some much needed attention.

Emalahleni Local Municipality in partnership with Maison Investments and the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and Environment have engaged in a three-day cleaning campaign. The cleaning came as a way of commemorating Mandela month and it was launched on Tuesday, July 27 at Ezinambeni Extension 14, next to the library.

MMC for Environmental Waste Thabang Mathibela taking part in the cleaning.

The MMC for Environmental Waste, Mr Thabang Mathibela said the municipality is going to make it a continuous project that will keep the youth busy and away from illegal things like crime and drugs. Mathibela further urged the community members to report any illegal dumping that are taking place.

“We have engaged with different departments and stakeholders in cleaning our city of coal, therefore we encourage people to report illegal dumping because it’s affecting our lives. With this cleaning campaign we are planning on cleaning all the illegal dumping sites that are on the open spaces and convert them into something that is going to benefit the people of eMalahleniWe want eMalahleni to be the healthiest place of love and peace, not toxic and unhealthy for people,” said Mathibela.

Mathibela thanked all the individuals who took part in making the campaign a success, especially Maison Investments for donating trucks to take the waste to appropriate dumping sites. All the protocol majors were followed, people were provided with safety gloves and overalls so that they can be safe while working.

“We were happy to be called to come and assist in removing waste, this is an important opportunity for us as Maison Investments; it shows that we have positive impact in our community as the local company that was established here in eMalahleni, therefore this is our way of giving back to the community. This is our way of contributing to our people. We want to create a better healthy place for our people,” said Zama Masina from Maison Investments. Ms Itumeng Tlou from the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and Environment added: “I’m glad to see the community members taking part in creating a healthy clean environment and I wish that the people of this place will always strive to keep this place clean and sparkling so that this campaign could go viral and cover the whole of eMalahleni,” she said.

People of Ezinambeni pledged that they will keep their place sparkling all the time because they also want to live in a healthy area. Mathibela concluded the day by ensuring community members that they will come to do some random checks to see if the place is kept clean. Share your news tips via:
