‘Rocks’, the soccer legend laid to rest
The late Leshaba was described as a person who loved and believed in God and lived his life to the fullest; his trademark was his smile
Soccer legend Joseph ‘Rocks’ Leshaba (77) was laid to rest last week.
His funeral service on July 29 in KwaGuqa, was attended by several other soccer legends who shared the field with him during his playing days.
The late Leshaba was described as a person who loved and believed in God and lived his life to the fullest; his trademark was his smile.

Soccer legend Bonnie McCall said they played together at Witbank Spades, even though Leshaba was promoted to the senior team.
He also added to say that Leshaba always had a smile, even in difficult times and always assured them that things will be better.
“A big tree has fallen, you were a gentle giant, go well, we will remember you brother and you will always dwell in our hearts. Rest in eternal peace Bra Rocks.”
A family member said all was well and that God does not make a mistake and once your name has been called, it is time to respond to God’s call.

Executive Mayor of eMalahleni Cllr Linah Malatjie who is related to Leshaba said that he was an athlete and member of the soccer legend team and represented the municipality on many occasions during games.
She said Leshaba had a lot of love and shared it with many people.
He was also very disciplined.

“You showed us love and we will always remember you with your wise words of wisdom. You played the role of being a good parent and we shall treasure that. Even in times of sorrow, you smiled and that is a lesson we learned. We now have an angel called Joseph and your legacy will keep us going. We will always know that we can turn to God as a reference to how you taught us.”

A friend to Leshaba pointed out that their friendship developed after borrowing him a car spanner and from there on it developed to an extent that they faced challenges and problems together like brothers.
He also indicated that he will remember and miss his friend during the times they shared the Bible.
Leshaba completed his schooling at Elukhanyisweni Secondary School, worked for SA Cyanamid and the railway until he retired.
He died after a short illness.
He is survived by his one brother and two sisters and eight children and grandchildren.
