General Lentsoane indicated that the arrested suspects violated, amongst others, murder, armed robbery, sexual offence, the pointing of a firearm, business burglary, attempted murder, driving under the influence, violation of the lockdown regulations, public drinking, and assault to cause grievous bodily harm.
“Some were arrested for theft, possession of dagga and drugs, housebreaking and theft as well as undocumented immigrants and other violations,” said General Lentsoane.
Some of these suspects have already appeared before different courts in the district, and some appeared before the courts on August 16. Inclusive of these successes are those who were scored during Operation BASADI.
“Crime is a problem to all of us, and we need to join hands and fight it. I am pleased with the successes, however, there is still a lot to be done,” she further added. She also indicated that in some areas within the district, victims are being robbed of their vehicles by people posing as police. Another issue that is a concern to the district commissioner is the fact that there are liquor outlet owners who are disregarding the stipulated trading hours and are thereby warned. Police will do everything in their midst to fight crime and enforce the law, however, we need the community to play their part,” General Lentsoane added.
She thanked members of the community who are always working side by side with the police in the fight against crime.
