MPHTL says no to gender-based violence
Inkhosi Ngomane urges communities to increase their commitment and actions against GBVF

The Mpumalanga Provincial House of Traditional Leaders (MPHTL) says gender-based violence is a global pandemic that affect women and children of all races, colour and creeds.
It is a serious violation of fundamental human rights and remains one of the most persistent development challenges.
South Africa has one of the highest rates of GBV in the world, with a feticide rate that is five times higher than the global average according to Stats SA.
The most recent crime statistics released by the South African Police Service confirms this, especially sexual offences, which have increased by 5% between October 2020 and July of 2021.
The Mpumalanga Provincial House of Traditional Leaders is gravely concern about the scourge.
Chairperson of the MPHTL, Inkhosi Sandile Ngomane addressing the Mpumalanga Men Sector on Wednesday, August 25, a forum which advocate for public participation in the fight against the scourge.
In his address Inkhosi Ngomane raised awareness about gender-based violence as a gross violation of women’s and children’s rights and fundamental freedoms.
“To end violence against women and children, men must be educated about gender stereotypes, attitudes and beliefs that condone violence and harmful masculinity. We must also encourage gender-equal norms and behaviours, as well as women’s participation in decision-making,” Inkhosi Ngomane said.
He urged communities to increase their commitment and actions against GBVF.
This includes steps to ensure continuity in life-saving services for GBV survivors and to address factors that perpetuate violence.
Issued by the Department of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs.
