Make a flower crown for Garden Day in October
There are many ways in which you can enjoy Garden Day
It should come as no surprise that, having been in some version of lockdown for more than a year, we as a country (and a planet!) have had to find ways not just of living consciously and reconnecting with nature, but also of keeping ourselves entertained and distracted. Welcome Garden Day 2021 – which will be celebrated on Sunday, October 17.
Garden Day is an altruistic movement to encourage all communities across South Africa to pop on a flower crown and celebrate their unique green spaces and gardens in every shape and size.
Globally, one of the most popular hobbies to emerge in the past 18 months has been gardening.
Following hot on the heels of cooking, a 2020 survey by GlobalData listed gardening as the second most popular lockdown hobby.
And now it is almost Spring and we as a country are ready to celebrate the fruits of our blooming labour on Garden Day.
There are many ways in which you can enjoy Garden Day.
A picnic on the lawn will bring you into direct contact with the earth and allow you much-needed grounding, plus the benefits of vitamin D (hello sunshine!) are known to include fighting off depression and boosting moods.
No space? No problem ‒ set a stylish table. Use teapots and plenty of gorgeous, garden-fresh flowers to create a visually striking tea party instead.
Or do as The Lazy Makoti is doing and bring your garden to your kitchen by adding home-grown herbs to a delicious salad, decorating a cake with petals or concocting a botanical cocktail.
