Surprise Heritage Day celebration for children and parents

This was an important mission to offer skills to the parents so that they can enable themselves and better the lives of their children

Child Welfare SA celebrated Heritage Day with those that are close to their heart.

The team surprised the residents at Klarinet dumping site and MNS informal settlement on Thursday, September 23 with gifts and a wholesome meal.

They were able to collect over 50 food packs donated by Pick n Pay and 25 blankets for children and distributed it to the children.

A group of children that are being looked after by CWSA had accompanied the team, where they entertained the residents by singing and dancing for them.

The auxiliary social workers had also prepared a meal for the older people in the informal settlements, which were appreciated as one of the residents mentioned that they don’t normally get such generous donations and it made a great impact in their lives and the lives of their children.

Upon investigation and talking to the residents, the auxiliary social workers saw that majority of the residents at the Klarinet dumping site had minimal education and some could not even write.

The team saw this as an important mission to offer skills to the parents so that they can enable themselves and better the lives of their children.

The residents were elated to hear the news and even offered to build a small shelter where they will be learning the skills.
