Glencore enriching communities through stakeholders

Glencore Coal hosts session with social stakeholders help communities

Glencore Coal South Africa in eMalahleni held a stakeholder engagement session with their social partners through its Community Development Department.

The session was held at Will Chris Estate on September 22, where various organizations attended to voice their concerns and raise suggestions to help the community of eMalahleni.

The aim of the session was to strengthen their relationship and pave ways for better relations in transforming and building the communities.

Tim Genders from Project Isizwe, Thembinkosi Singwane from SANCA, Zethu Gwala and Angelina Khupe from SANCB.

Organization representatives from Emalahleni Local Municipality, South African National Council on Alcohol and Drug Dependance (SANCA) ND, White Rose Hospice, Phola Community Health Centre (CHC), Project Isizwe, Ligbron Academy and South African National Council for the Blind (SANCB) had joined to establish new relationships and brainstorm new ideas that will elevate the livelihoods of the communities surrounding Glencore Coal.

Ian Troskie, acting community manager at Glencore Coal said that it is important to build such relationships which stakeholders as some of them know challenges within the community, which they can assist in.

Topics such as Local Economic Development (LED) and corporate social investments (CSI) were discussed in depth, where projects that were initiated by Glencore Coal in the Nkangala region were shown.

The presentations also incorporated the statistics of the research that they have done which opened channels of communication among the stakeholders that had attended. Read More:
