Sakhilahle Community Projects along with CWP and other environmental groups celebrated International Ozone Day. The day was dedicated to cleaning up the city and planting trees that would provide clean air for schools around Ackerville and Lynnville.
On Tuesday, September 28 community members came in numbers to support the great initiative of cleaning eMalahleni and planting trees around various schools.
Trees were also planted at Maloma Primary School, Hlalanikahle Primary School, Elukhanyisweni Secondary School, Nkonjane Primary School, Vuma Primary School and Khonzimfundo Primary School.
A few learners from Vuma Primary School were picked to plant trees outside their school premises. Cllr Qondi Maseko, ward councilor for ward 13 guided the girls on how to plant the tree.
Maseko said that she was happy to hear that the enviro-group invited her to come and clean up. “This program will keep our township very clean and will teach residents to look after their area,” added Maseko.
Buti Mahlangu, Acting Principal at Vuma Primary School said that the dirt caused by dumping really affected the learners and teachers, but Sakhilahle made a difference in their lives.
“We are grateful to Sakhilahle Projects for this great initiative. We also welcome the tree donation that was made to our school, I believe that they will help with cleaner air for our school and surrounding residents,” Mahlangu added.
“I believe that we have met the objectives, which is to clean and plant trees for our communities. I am happy with the amount of people that came to help us, it shows that they care about their community and we believe that this is the beginning of a great journey,” said Lebogang Mahlalela.
