[FOLLOW UP] Prison warden out on bail after being arrested for dealing in drugs

The drugs were seized after an intelligence driven operation was conducted at the women’s house

The 37-year-old prison warden who is employed at Paxton Correctional Services appeared briefly in court shortly after being arrested.

She appeared on Thursday, November 11 before Witbank Magistrate’s Court on charges of dealing in drugs. She was released on R3 000 bail and the case was postponed until January 27, 2022, for further investigation.

Witbank Police conducted an intelligence-driven operation at the house inside Paxton prison premises.

During the operation, the house of the warden was searched and drugs were found inside the house with a street value of R1 million.

An assortment of drugs included 2 474.4 grams of crystal meth, 79.8 grams of cocaine, 1.6 grams of cocaine rock, 15.4 grams of heroin and cash to the value of R70 000 were seized.

Police are currently investigating whether the drugs were sold to prisoners at the prison or sold elsewhere outside the prison in eMalahleni.

Brigadier Moses Bolton the station commander of Witbank Police commended the members for their efforts ensuring that these drugs were seized before they could make their way to the streets of eMalahleni.

The Provincial Head for the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation Mpumalanga, Major General Zodwa Mokoena applauded the virtuous working relationship between the units within the South African Police Service, which yielded such a massive success. She further warned all corrupt government employees and said,

“your days are numbered in the service, we will investigate without fear, favour nor prejudice”.
